National approvals
Underwriters Laboratories is an independent organisation with its headquarters in the USA which tests and certifies products for safety.
UL (Listed) = certified device
UR (Recognised) = certified components
Certified in accordance with US and Canadian requirements by Underwriter Laboratories. To a large extent, UL also performs its testing in accordance with Canadian standards. In future, at Bürkert this approval will replace the UL, UR and CSA.
The Canadian Standard Organisation is the body responsible for national standardisation in Canada. Only products that are tested and certified according to the relevant standard may bear the CSA mark. There are several parallels to the UL certification in the US.
The Canadian Registration Number (CRN) is assigned to products which comply with the pressure regulations of individual Canadian provinces regarding the strength of the housing.
The Pressure Equipment Directive is a directive of the European Parliament which sets the requirements for pressure equipment for placing such equipment on the market within the EU.
Explosions protection
IECEx covers devices and protective systems that are used in potentially explosive atmospheres (international). The approval is national law in Australia and New Zealand only; however, it is often recognised and taken as a basis for national Ex approvals (China, Japan, Korea, Brazil, etc.). The requirements are from the IEC 60079 series of standards.
ATEX covers devices and protective systems that are used in potentially explosive atmospheres (Europe). Directive 2014/34/EU specifies the requirements. In order to fulfil the requirements of the Directive, harmonised standards are applied (EN 60079-x series). It is assumed that when the standards are fulfilled, the requirements of the Directive are also satisfied.
This approval certifies products for application in potentially explosive areas and is generally recognised throughout North America. In future, this approval will be replaced at Bürkert by the FM and CSAEx.

Water
The ACS approval is a hygienic inspection of coated materials and is mandatory in France. Without the ACS approval of materials or other components for drinking water, the market remains closed for the product.
The Drinking Water Ordinance governs the approval of plastics and other non-metallic materials (e.g. seal materials) for use with drinking water in Germany. Manufactured components are tested in accordance with the Drinking Water Ordinance, and the base material is tested according to DVGW worksheet W270.
The VDE (Verband der Elektrotechnik Informationstechnik e.V.) certifies valves in accordance with EN 60730. In addition to the functionality, the products’ security requirements are also tested.
Watermark is a certification for products for use in process and drinking water applications in Australia. The responsible authority is the Australian Gas Association (AGA).
Gas
The CSA gas approval applies in Canada. It is comparable to the AGA certificate in Australia, serving as the basis for the use of a gas solenoid valve in Canada.
DVGW CERT GmbH is a European certifying body in the gas and water sector. Together with its testing laboratories, it tests, certifies and monitors gas and water-related products, quality and environmental management systems according to DIN EN ISO 9000 et seq. and DIN EN ISO 14001 as well as companies and persons (subject matter experts).

Pharmaceutical
Concerns plastics used in medical technology and pharmaceuticals. It is based on the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), which classifies materials into six biocompatibility classes.
