Bespoke automation solution for dosage delivery
Precise control for the disgorgement line in champagne production - cooperation with the Coopérative Régionale des Vins de Champagne in Reims
In Reims, the Coopérative Régionale des Vins de Champagne (CRVC), the regional cooperative for the wines of the Champagne region, produces around 700,000 bottles of champagne per year. The vineyard enjoys an excellent reputation and is renowned for the high quality of its champagne. This is achieved with a great deal of intuition and know-how. These characteristics were also required for the expansion of the special disgorgement line – where Bürkert came into play as a partner.
Automation solution compensates for pressure fluctuations during dosage delivery
The CRVC production facility was expanded with a disgorgement line. However, the new system imposed several technical restrictions on the operators of the facility. Due to the large amount of space required for the disgorgement line, the dosage system and dosing machine are housed on different floors. From a technical point of view, the fluctuating pressures during dosage delivery represent a real challenge.
For the highest quality and the best taste, our customer requires precisely controlled dosage delivery during disgorgement, which is a special step in champagne production. This dosage delivery compensates for the loss of liquid after the ice plug that develops is removed and simultaneously plays a decisive role in the subsequent taste of the champagne.
To overcome the existing challenges and obtain a technically perfect result, Bürkert worked together with CRVC to develop an automation solution that reliably and effectively meets all the requirements for the control task. The close cooperation started with a feasibility study, initial test runs and appropriate programming and led on to long-term reliable operation of the system.
Reliable dosing through Transmitter/Controller multicell Type 8619
For automation of the dosage delivery, CRVC is trusting Bürkert’s application knowledge and components. One particular advantage is the optimum coordination of individual components with one another, which ensures reliable results. At the heart of the solution is the Type 8619 multiCELL transmitter/controller, which records the different measured values and precisely controls the dosing. The controller offers a simple and intuitive operating interface with a large graphics display as well as the option to connect different sensors directly. Additional components including a process control valve , diaphragm valve and pressure sensors work together and complete the automation solution.
multiCELL – multi-channel/multi-function transmitter/controller
- Compatible with most common flow, pH/ORP, chlorine and conductivity sensors
- Simple, intuitive user interface with a large adjustable backlit graphics display (4 user defined views)
- Hardware extension possibilities (up to 6 free slots)
- Industrial Ethernet (Modbus TCP, PROFINET or EtherNet/IP) option available
- Functionality extendable by software options
Start-up and customer-specific training
The maintenance department of the CRVC worked closely with us to implement the automated dosage delivery. Whereas the technicians at CRVC were responsible for the installation, Bürkert handled the start-up and parameterisation tasks and provided training for the employees on site.
